According to Police.uk, Gloucester City had a higher than average crime rate compared to other similar areas such as Sheffield, Plymouth and Derby.
We thought it important to look a bit deeper at the types of crime that are on the increase (or above average) and the areas in the county most affected.
The following types of crime are all higher than average in Gloucester:
All Crime, Burglary, Bicycle Theft, Other Crime, Public Order Offences, Shoplifting and Violence/Sexual Offences
When it comes to specific areas the types of crime vary for example the Cotswolds see more Burglary and Vehicle Theft. Whereas, Drug Offences, Possession of Weapons and Violent Offences are more common in Gloucester and Cheltenham respectively.
Areas such as Tewkesbury have generally lower than average rates of crime across the board, with only Public Order Offences being higher than average.
According to the website Crime Rate “As of 2024, the crime rate in Gloucester is 99% higher than the South West and 50% higher than the England, Wales & Northern Ireland overall figure.”
The Crime Rate for Gloucester is higher than The City of London, Bristol, Belfast and Sheffield. However, it is lower than Birmingham, Liverpool and Leeds.
Of the 862 stop and searches conducted between October 2023 and March 2024, 301 (34.92%) had a police outcome, and 561 (65.08%) had no further action taken. For (0%), the outcome was not collected. Police.uk

Stolen Goods
199 searches during this period resulted in an arrest, 82 required a community resolution and 561 required no further action.
Stroud, Gloucester and Cheltenham are ranked as the most dangerous areas in Gloucestershire, whereas Bradley Stoke, Churchdown and Bromley Heath are all considered the safest areas in the county.
It is worth taking all of these statistics with a pinch of salt however, as there are many factors at play as to why some areas are considered safer than others. For example, it is no surprise that the county’s main city ranks higher than smaller towns and villages - this is commonplace across the country.
A Cheltenham drug dealer has been arrested after being found with £100,000 worth of cocaine.
A man has been charged with 10 offences including attempted murder relating to an incident in Leominster on 30th May.
Gloucestershire Live reports that antisocial youth are causing misery for residents of Moreton in Marsh; residents are seeking support from Gloucestershire constabulary.
32 lorries were vandalised at Strensham services with their PVC curtains slashed (presumably in theft attempts), two men were arrested after a short police pursuit.
Several smash and grab vehicle thefts were reported at the end of May across Cirencester, Stroud and Cheltenham.
A teenage boy was attacked during an under 18’s night out, the incident occurred in Eastgate Street, Gloucester, it is reported the attackers were a group of teenagers.
